About the journal

Intelligence, Mathematics and Society is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal published by NOOS Research Lab. Published online in English, the journal provides a forum for research on intelligence, mathematical understanding, and the social contexts in which knowledge and technology are developed and used.

The journal brings together original research, reviews, and perspectives that advance understanding within these fields and across their boundaries. We welcome theoretical, empirical, computational, and conceptual contributions, including work that connects formal analysis with questions of human judgment, institutional practice, and technological change.

Our readership includes researchers in artificial intelligence, mathematics, the social sciences, philosophy, and organizational studies, as well as scholars concerned with the governance and consequences of intelligent systems. Contributions should make their question, methods or reasoning, evidence, and limitations clear enough for readers to evaluate the work and understand its relevance beyond a narrow specialty.

Manuscript submissions are open. Published articles are freely available online, and the journal charges no article processing charges (APCs). Submissions are assessed through an editorial process using single-anonymous peer review. Authors should consult the author guidelines and publishing policies before submitting.

Three principal fields

Intelligence

Learning, reasoning, cognition, and the foundations of intelligent systems.

Mathematics

Formal structures, mathematical reasoning, and tools for understanding complexity.

Society

Social systems, institutions, ethics, and the human consequences of intelligence.

These fields provide the journal's central orientation. The detailed aims and scope also cover artificial intelligence governance and ethics, large language models, cognitive risk, organizational and business questions, computational approaches to governance and society, and the relationship between technology and human life.

Editorial approach

Editors consider a manuscript's relevance, originality, clarity, and the strength of its evidence or argument. Single-anonymous review means that reviewers know the authors' identities, while reviewer identities remain confidential to authors. The editorial decision draws on the assessment of the work and any revisions requested during review.

Editorial community

The current editorial board comprises members of NOOS Research Lab. Established and experienced scholars are invited to apply to join the editorial board. Researchers and experienced professionals with relevant expertise may apply to become reviewers. Applications are assessed by the editorial team.
